Airbus has announced it has been selected by Eutelsat, one of the world’s leading satellites operators, to build two HOTBIRD new-generation telecommunication satellites to replace current spacecraft and enhance capacity at Eutelsat’s premium broadcasting position at 13° East, improving performances over the European and Middle-Eastern footprint, reinforced by a powerful European Superbeam.

The new satellites will ensure full service continuity over the operational 102 Ku-band transponders/frequencies, secure deployment and capacity redundancy; the The HOTBIRD fleet forming one of the largest broadcasting systems in Europe, which broadcasts over 1,000 television channels to more than 135 million homes in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.

These new spacecraft will be based on the Eurostar Neo platform, Airbus’ new geostationary telecommunications satellite standard design which combines increased payload capacity and more efficient power and thermal control systems with reduced production time and optimized costs. The satellites combine electric power of 22 kW with a launch mass of only 4,500 kg, thanks to the EOR (Electric Orbit Raising) version of the Eurostar Neo platform and are expected to be launched in 2021.

Nicolas Chamussy, Head of Space Systems at Airbus said: “The continuing confidence of Eutelsat in our products means that they are now the launch customer for Eurostar Neo which will be our new flagship telecommunications satellite. They have been our key partner for most of our firsts, including Eurostar E2000+ and Eurostar E3000, as well as electric orbit raising.”

Delta has reported that a portion of the oil refined by Monroe Energy will come from synthetic feedstock converted from waste plastic, under an agreement announced last week with Agilyx, an environmental technology and development company.
|
Under the agreement, Agilyx will supply about 2,500 barrels per day of the synthetic feedstock by 2020.
|
"The Agilyx technology is an innovative process, reducing the amount of plastic that is currently being landfilled," said Jeff Warmann, CEO – Monroe Energy. "I am proud that our company can play such a significant role in converting waste plastics into useful jet fuel for Delta."

Monroe, which is owned by Delta, operates the refinery in Trainer, Penn.

Sir Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Group, is an investor in Agilyx.
|
"This is a major step forward in the search for a cost effective low carbon aviation fuel," Branson said in a news release. "The beauty of the Agilyx process is it will take waste plastics, which are a major problem for the environment, and turn it into something useful. I am excited by the opportunity and pleased that Monroe Energy and Delta are looking to collaborate on this ground breaking project."

MRO service provider SR Technics, has named Owen McClave as Senior Vice President Engine Services, effective as of January 1, 2019 and reporting directly to Jean-Marc Lenz, Chief Operating Officer. He will succeed Roberto Furlan, who has decided to step down.

Lufthansa Technik Shenzhen and Asiana Airlines have signed a five-year agreement for technical support on V2500 thrust reverser.
|
Under the terms of the agreement, Lufthansa Technik Shenzhen will support Asiana Airlines in developing its in-house capabilities for the V2500 thrust reverser and other related components by providing technical training, tools and equipment as well as on-site support.
|
The aim is to establish a flexible and mutually beneficial cooperation based on the respective expertise and needs of both companies and to deepen their relationships. With the quality standards and experience of Lufthansa Technik Shenzhen, Asiana Airlines will take a significant step towards building its own repair capabilities instead of outsourcing the services.

Baines Simmons, part of the Consulting & Training division of global aviation services group Air Partner, has appointed Jim Creber as Senior Consultant. Creber reports directly to Mike Wallace, Head of Training & Consulting Operations and is based at Baines Simmons’ headquarters at Fairoaks airport.

Creber has over 25 years of systems engineering experience gained across a wide range of industries, including 18 years as an engineer in the Royal Air Force. For the past 10 years, he has applied his significant expertise to the Aviation Safety domain, developing and delivering a number of strategic safety initiatives. Notably, he was responsible for establishing the first Human Factors and Error Management System in the UK military.

The first ACJ320neo successfully completed a two hour and 40 minute first flight from Hamburg on November 16th, getting its short test-programme off to a good start.
|
Derived from the popular A320neo airliner family, some 500 of which are in airline service, the corporate jet version includes features such as extra fuel-tanks in the cargo-hold that will deliver even more intercontinental range, plus greater cabin-pressure for better passenger comfort.
|
These features are being tested before delivery of the aircraft to Acropolis Aviation in the coming months. The aircraft will then undergo cabin outfitting by AMAC in Basle, Switzerland, and be repainted in customer colours.
|
“The ACJ320neo first flight heralds a new Airbus corporate jet era, delivering a range improvement that enables nonstop travel between even more cities, in what is widely recognised as the best cabin of any business jet,” said ACJ President Benoit Defforge. “The ACJ320neo Family’s improved fuel-efficiency also means that it compares even more favourably in operating costs with traditional business-jets,” he added.

Continuous improvements mean that the ACJ320 Family now comprises the ACJ319neo, flying eight passengers 6,750 nm/12,500 km or more than 15 hours, and the ACJ320neo, flying 25 passengers 6,000 nm/11,100 km or more than 13 hours.
|
Both aircraft feature fuel-saving new-generation engines and Sharklets, and deliver more comfort and space than traditional business jets with similar operating costs.
|

Munich Airport marked the launch of Avianca's new service to Bogotá with a traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony, attended by Hernán Rincón, the CEO of Avianca, and Dr. Michael Kerkloh, the President and CEO of Munich Airport. Munich is now the only German destination served non-stop by the Colombian carrier.

Avianca will depart from Munich to the Colombian capital five times a week. Passengers flying to Bogotá will benefit from the wide range of connecting flights to attractive Latin American destinations offered by the Star Alliance member Avianca at its home hub. Along with 20 Colombian cities, Avianca flies to 60 other destinations in Latin America, including many in Mexico, the Caribbean and across the South American continent.

Avianca is the world's second-oldest airline. It will serve the Munich route with the modern, widebody Boeing 787-800 Dreamliner.
