Embraer has inked a purchase agreement with Flexjet, one of the global leaders in private jet travel. The deal comprises a fleet of Embraer business jets, which includes the recently certified Praetor jets and the Phenom 300.
|
Valued at up to US$ 1.4 billion, at current list prices, this deal was included in the 2019 second quarter backlog, with deliveries starting in the fourth quarter of 2019. With this purchase agreement, Flexjet becomes Embraer’s Praetor fleet launch customer.

The 2019 NBAA Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE) in Las Vegas will run between October 22 and 24 this year. Ahead of the world’s largest business jet event, much of the focus of planemakers has been on improvements in maintenance and accessibility of parts for customers as the industry, as a whole, pushes for higher-margin aftermarket services.

As Canada planemaker Bombardier announces that its new Global 550 aircraft will be capable of flying 200nm further than anticipated, it has also announced it will be adding line maintenance stations at two U.S. locations to introduce unscheduled services while it subsequently plans to create scheduled maintenance services. The company is currently focusing on boosting new product sales and maintenance packages to increase revenue for the aftermarket services section of its business.

Additionally, Textron Aviation, manufacturer of Cessna aircraft, has grown the square footage of three of its U.S.-based warehouses by approximately 50 percent as part of the company’s plans to make parts more readily available to customers. “Aftermarket has always been a key business driver to ensure we can support our customers,” said Kriya Shortt, Senior Vice President, Global Customer Support, Textron Aviation.

With an expanded Air Carrier Certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Wing has become the first company to operate a commercial air delivery service via drone directly to homes in the United States. Wing has started delivering packages, over-the-counter medication, snacks and gifts to residents of Christiansburg, Virginia, on October 18.
|
Wing’s FAA permissions are the first to allow multiple pilots to oversee multiple unmanned aircraft making commercial deliveries simultaneously to the general public, paving the way for the most advanced drone delivery service in the nation.
|
Wing’s collaborators on this service — FedEx Express, Walgreens, and local Virginia retailer Sugar Magnolia — are the first businesses in the United States to offer this form of local air delivery to customers.

VA Airline Training (VA) and Ultimate High Academy (UHA) have formed a Training Alliance and developed a new joint Multi-pilot Aircraft (MPA) ‘Airline Ready’ programme. Trainees completing Airline Pilot Standards (APS) MCC courses with Cambridge Airport-based VA, will progress seamlessly onto an ‘Advanced’ Multi-Pilot Aircraft (MPA) Upset Prevention and Recovery Training (UPRT) course with UHA at Goodwood Airport (UK).

The new, jointly designed programme builds a continuum of multi-pilot competencies for ab initio (newly qualified) pilots prior to commencing their first aircraft type rating training with an airline partner.

EASA competency based MPA training has evolved significantly in recent years. The APS MCC training was pioneered by VA in the UK in April 2018, with Advanced on-aircraft UPRT being pioneered by UHA for launch in December 2019. The jointly delivered MPA APS MCC and UPRT programme is yet another pioneering move; which will be delivered through an inaugural airline sponsored programme within days of the new EASA Regulations going live

Air Lease Corporation has signed long-term lease agreements with Delta Air Lines for two new Airbus A330-900neo aircraft. The first aircraft is scheduled to deliver to the airline in Fall 2020 and the second aircraft will deliver in early 2021 from ALC’s order book with Airbus.
|
“These two incremental aircraft represent an opportunistic play to fulfill our near-term widebody aircraft needs for our customers and employees as older generation aircraft are retired and to support measured growth in 2021,” said Greg May, Delta’s Senior Vice President – Fleet and Technical Procurement. “We’re also pleased that the engines on these aircraft will be maintained by Delta TechOps professionals through our partnership with Rolls-Royce.”

Austria’s Ministry of the Interior (BMI) has formally introduced into service two Airbus H125 helicopters, equipped for law enforcement and rescue missions.
|
The aircraft join BMI’s existing fleets of Airbus H135 and AS350 helicopters and will operate from Innsbruck and Salzburg on behalf of the Tyrolean Government in the Tyrol and other mountainous areas of Austria.
|
The H125 was selected by the BMI due to its versatility and all-round performance which are critical to delivering mission availability in Austria’s Alpine regions throughout the year.

Eurowings has chosen Atitech, the independent MRO located in Naples,Italy, as its new partner to take care of airframe maintenance needs. In a meeting held at the MRO Europe in London, the Boards of Eurowings and Atitech signed the contract, starting a long-term cooperation.

Furthermore, Atitech has signed a long-term service agreement for airframe maintenance with Austrian Airlines.

Delta TechOps andAustria's largest carrier, Austrian Airlines, have signed an engine maintenance agreement at the MRO Europe conference in London. The exclusive agreement covers PW4060 engine maintenance for up to six years supporting the airline's Boeing 767 fleet.

As the maintenance division of Delta Air Lines, Delta TechOps has numerous years of experience both operating and maintaining PW4000 engines. Delta TechOps will conduct scheduled full overhaul shop visits. In addition to regularly scheduled maintenance on these engines, Delta
TechOps will support any unscheduled engine work as required.

GKN Aerospace has reached a major milestone in the ‘Wing of Tomorrow’ programme after designing, manufacturing, and delivering a mid-scale demonstrator tool to the GKN Aerospace Filton facility. This tool provides a fully functioning automated low pressure RTM system for the Airbus-led programme’s composite wing spar. The spar is considered one of the most challenging aerospace components to design and manufacture, and this will be one of the first times that RTM technology
has been used on this scale.

GKN Aerospace engineers have used proven tool-making knowledge from the automotive industry in developing the demonstrator. The 4-metre development testbed will deliver a rate 60 automated manufacturing solution and significantly improve the productivity of the composite manufacturing process, by removing one third of the production steps involved.
|
Technology will be moving from traditional, pre-impregnated resin material to dry composite fibres that are injected with resin as part of the initial manufacturing process for the wing spar. This will result in significant weight savings.
|
GKN Aerospace is using its world-leading capability in design and manufacture of composite Wing Spars and assembly of Fixed Trailing Edges - as proven on the A330, A400M and A350 - to mature the key technologies. The development work will stretch into 2021.

As part of a research project on the effects of ultra-long-haul travel on passenger and crew, Qantas has set a new milestone in commercial aviation with a successful non-stop flight between New York and Sydney. The flight lasted 19 hours and 16 minutes, covering 16,200 kilometers (10,066 miles) with 50 passengers and crew on board a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner which arrived in Sydney Sunday morning October 20, (local time).

“This is a really historic moment for Qantas, a really historic moment for Australian aviation and a really historic moment for world aviation,” Qantas Chief Executive Officer Alan Joyce, who took the flight, said after landing. “The flight was very successful from two components - the first one was research,” Qantas Captain Sean Golding said, “and also the feat of distance… …we landed here in Sydney with a comfortable 70 minutes of fuel.” In order to achieve such a feat, in addition to only carrying 50 people, the Dreamliner had no cargo, restricted baggage for passengers, and a maximum fuel load.

In a statement, Qantas confirmed that the aim of the research was to increase health and wellness, minimize jet lag and identify optimum crew rest and work periods. The team of researchers on board monitored, among other things, lighting, activity, sleep and consumption patterns of passengers, and crew melatonin levels. They also tracked the brain wave patterns of pilots, equipped for the flight with brain-monitoring devices.
