Savback Helicopters signs LoI for 25 Mayman Aerospace Speeders

Having been appointed as the exclusive marketing and sales representative for Speeder in the Nordic countries in June 2022, Sweden-based Savback Helicopters (Savback) has confirmed it has signed a Letter of Intent with Mayman Aerospace for the acquisition of 25 Speeder Air Utility Vehicles (AUVs), making Savback the first civilian purchaser for the aircraft. The announced deal has a book value of US$45 million (£37 million).

Savback chairman, Michael Savback, anticipates Speeder’s core attributes, including its incredible manoeuvrability, high-speed and heavy payload capabilities, will be extremely attractive to military customers in the Scandinavian region. Speeders are compact, fast, powerful, and long-range and can fly in autonomous, remote, or piloted configurations in challenging environments and weather where other aircraft may be grounded. Similar to a quadbike in size, the Speeder has been designed and modelled to lift 1,000 lbs and fly 400 miles at over 500 mph in unpiloted cargo mode and Mayman Aerospace is currently working closely with the FAA toward flight certification. Initial test flights will be remotely controlled, with piloted tests anticipated towards the end of Q4 2023. The Speeder is faster and more powerful than electric drones and eVTOLs, smaller and appreciably less expensive than a helicopter and will be powered by regular, Zero-Net-Carbon or Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

“The Speeder is an outstandingly versatile machine. We are proud to announce our intent to add this advanced technology to our existing portfolio. This aircraft is well placed to satisfy the growing needs of our military forces for vehicles that can support contested logistics, casevac and cargo missions in minimal time with maximum reliability. The autonomously piloted Speeder reduces human risk and strengthens existing fleet proficiencies; it’s a winning formula all around,” Michael Savback commented.

Lufthansa Technik awarded contract for VIP cabin completion of an ACJ320neo

Lufthansa Technik has received an order from an unnamed private customer for the VIP interior of a brand-new Airbus ACJ320neo. The aircraft is expected to arrive at the company's cabin completion centre in Hamburg in late summer 2023, where it will receive its new interior by spring 2024. With customized fittings for private travel as well as for charter operations, the aircraft is designed to meet the highest demands. This will also be valid for the VIP jet's inflight entertainment and communications outfitting that will be based on a latest generation satellite communication system.

The design of the cabin, whose conceptual renderings originate from Lufthansa Technik's in-house design centre in Hamburg, was developed in close cooperation with the customer. The layout of the cabin is linear and strictly oriented to the need for privacy: from the deliberately open grand entrance behind the cockpit through various lounge and office areas to the spacious and very private master-bedroom in the rear.

A special feature of the cabin is its flexible design for various purposes, from regular private trips of the owner with his family to chartering the aircraft to demanding individual travel groups. This flexibility is reflected not only in the choice of luxurious, yet extremely durable interior materials, but also in the certification of the aircraft, for which Lufthansa Technik will obtain Supplemental Type Certification for private and commercial flight operations.

In addition to the completion of the VIP cabin, Lufthansa Technik will also provide an Aircraft Production Inspection Programme (APIP), the Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisation (CAMO) and, after delivery, aircraft maintenance and component support for the customer for an initial period of five years as part of the contract.

Despite the extensive functionalities and a capacity of up to 19 passengers, Lufthansa Technik's specialists have also succeeded in keeping the weight of the cabin interior within particularly narrow limits. As a result, this ACJ320neo with its four auxiliary fuel tanks and efficient PW1100 geared turbofans from Pratt&Whitney will achieve the full range specified by Airbus Corporate Jets for this type.

Air France-KLM and TotalEnergies sign MOU for delivery of sustainable aviation fuel

Air France-KLM and TotalEnergies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will see TotalEnergies deliver more than one million cubic metres or 800,000 tonnes of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) to Air France-KLM Group airlines over a ten-year period, starting in 2023.

This SAF will be produced by TotalEnergies at its biorefineries and will be made available to the Air France-KLM Group’s airlines, mainly for flights departing from France (in accordance with French legislation) and the Netherlands.

Air France-KLM has implemented a strict sourcing policy and is committed to procuring only SAF fuels that do not compete with human food or animal feed, that are RSB or ISCC certified for sustainability and that are not derived from palm oil.

Coulson Aviation secures four-year firefighting contract in Western Australia

Coulson Aviation has been awarded a four-year firefighting contract with the Western Australia government for a C-130H Hercules airtanker. The aircraft is already on its way to Australia from the U.S.

Built by Lockheed Martin, the C-130 Hercules is a four-engine turboprop military transport aircraft. Coulson purchased the C-130 from the Norwegian military and overhauled and converted it into one of the industry’s premiere large airtankers. It has a capacity of 4,000 gallons (15,000 litres) and is considered one of the world’s most powerful aerial firefighting aircraft due to its range, versatility and suppression ability per drop.

Western Australia Emergency Services Minister Stephen Dawson warned last month of an unpredictable and potentially devastating bushfire season with bushland primed with undergrowth as a result of heavy rains and climate change. Coulson’s C-130H will be based in Busselton, Western Australia, to support fire suppression efforts throughout the season.

Air bp expands safe2go fuel data platform to 18 airports in Greece

Air bp, the international aviation fuel products and services supplier, is expanding the reach of its innovative safe2go fuel data platform (previously known as Airfield Automation) by marketing to fuel operators at non-Air bp operated locations. The safe2go fuel data platform consists of several digital solutions that provide efficiencies to the refuelling process, both on the ground and at back office – one of these being the safe2go fuelling app, a bp-patented mis-fuel prevention technology to help significantly reduce the risk of into-plane misfuelling.

Air bp’s proprietary safe2go fuel data platform has been deployed at 18 airports in Greece via Greek into-plane service and storage company, GISSCO. GISSCO was founded in 2004 and is a JV including bp Hellenic and Shell – Motor Oil Aviation. GISSCO represents the largest fuel ground handling company in Greece and refuels more than 60,000 flights to destinations worldwide per year.

Air bp will continue to progress its expansion with new customers around the globe.
