Caribbean Airlines has chosen to enhance and renew its single-aisle fleet with the 737 MAX 8. The carrier, which has long operated the Next-Generation 737, will take delivery of 12 MAX airplanes in the coming years.
|
The airline commemorated the selection of the MAX during a ceremony featuring national dignitaries, including the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, the Honorable Keith Rowley, and Caribbean Airlines Chief Executive Officer, Garvin Medera.
|
"Boeing has been by our side since Caribbean Airlines was founded twelve years ago using the 737-800. The 737 MAX allows us to continue offering a safe and comfortable experience for our passengers, while significantly improving fuel efficiency and environmental performance," said Medera. "All of these elements position us for long-term success."

Flight attendants at America’s United Airlines are not taking the news lying down that the carrier intends to reduce the number of flight attendants by one in the high-margin Polaris international business cabin. The consequence of United’s announcement earlier this month has seen those who are members of the Association of Flight Attendants (AFA) plan a “day of action” on December 13 in protest at the move, along with a number of other issues which have upset the company’s 24,000+ flight attendants.

It is anticipated such disruption will include informational picket lines at United’s key hubs across the U.S. including, but not limited to, Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, San Francisco International Airport, Los Angeles International Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport.
Union leaders said in a memo to AFA's United Airlines membership that: “we are taking our fight public because our fight affects the traveling public too, and management should not only be answering to Wall Street. The people on planes are the ones who matter.”

United management has insisted the cut of one flight attendant in the Polaris cabin, which will take effect on February 1, will not materially affect the level of service to Polaris customers as the carrier plans to pre-plate entrees served in the business cabin. However, the AFA has taken issue with this, an AFA spokeswoman commenting today that: “Pre-plated food is no substitute for another flight attendant in the aisles.”

United also confirmed that eliminating one flight attendant position would make staffing in the cabin match the ratio of staff to passengers in international business class cabins of United’s principal United States-based rivals American Airlines and Delta Air Lines.

Airbus’ newest training center in Denver is now home to the first A320neo full flight simulator (FFS) in the Americas. The simulator just achieved Level D certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) with four engine fits -- including the NEO.
|
This simulator complements the two existing A320 Family, FAA-certified Level D FFS in the Denver Airbus Training Center. FAA FFS Level D is the highest level of FFS certification currently available.
|
The latest FFS was produced by L3 Commercial Aviation, who will also shortly supply the new Training Center with an additional FFS and two Flat Panel Trainer devices for the A320 model.

Stobart Air, the regional franchise flying partner to leading airlines, has taken delivery of one Embraer E190 aircraft, MSN 19000218, on lease from Nordic Aviation Capital (NAC).
|
Stobart Air operates up to 860 flights weekly across 42 routes throughout 10 European countries from bases in the UK & Ireland. The airline operates a fleet of 19 aircraft with routes across Dublin, Cork, Shannon, Kerry and Donegal Airport in Ireland and from London’s Southend Airport and the Isle of Man.

Bombardier has announced the latest addition to its expanding Services and Support network – a line maintenance station (LMS) located at Le Bourget Airport near Paris, France. The new facility is the seventh line maintenance station to be opened in the past 18 months, further strengthening Bombardier’s OEM support services offering for its growing European customer base.
|
In addition to standard scheduled line maintenance and unscheduled and AOG maintenance support, the new facility offers both wheel and battery shop maintenance services. The technical engineers supporting the facility are certified for the Learjet 60, all Challenger 300 series, all Challenger 600 series, and Global series business jets, including Bombardier’s flagship Global 7500 aircraft.

This month, Bombardier also expanded its North American Mobile Response Team (MRT) by adding five new trucks, bringing the worldwide total to 30 and enhancing the MRT’s reach and response times. Based in San Francisco and Santa Ana, CA, Las Vegas, NV, West Palm Beach, FL, and Scottsdale, AZ, the strategically-located MRT trucks will enhance the delivery of parts and technical support across the U.S.

Turkish Airlines has signed an agreement with the Turkish systems and software company, HAVELSAN, to buy 5 Full-Flight simulators and 6 Flight Training Devices.
|
HAVELSAN will produce full-flight simulators with international D-level certification for the Boeing 737MAX and Airbus A320ceo/neo type aircraft.
|
The agreement means Turkish Airlines will reduce its foreign dependency for technology and boost the domestic market.
|
HAVELSAN aims to gain a significant place in the world civil simulator production market with the production of Boeing 737MAX and Airbus A320CEO/NEO type simulators.

WestJet is adding to its growing Atlantic gateway from Halifax with the addition of daily non-stop service to Dublin, Ireland starting April 29, 2019 through October 25, 2019.
|
WestJet's Boeing 737-MAX aircraft features the airline's Premium and Economy cabins, WestJet Connect and the Boeing Sky Interior. Flights are timed to optimize connectivity to and from flights from central Canada and the Atlantic provinces.

China Post and Lufthansa Cargo have entered into a “Joint Freight Operation” agreement, under which China’s National Post will leverage capacity on Lufthansa Cargo flights to improve e-commerce-driven air mail transportation between China and Europe.
|
Initially, Lufthansa Cargo will provide the Post with cargo capacity between Shanghai and Frankfurt that is “equivalent” to a weekly 777F flight.
|
Rather than operating a 777F solely on China Post’s behalf, the deal will likely resemble a block space agreement, in which China Post will have regular access to Lufthansa’s scheduled cargo and passenger flights.
|
According to the most recently published winter schedule, Lufthansa Cargo operates ten weekly 777F flights between Shanghai (PVG) and Frankfurt (FRA). In addition to the freighter flight, Lufthansa operates at least eighteen weekly widebody passenger flights out of the Yangtze River Delta gateway.

Although Lufthansa Cargo has long provided lift to China Post on outbound flights from key destinations in China, such as Beijing and Guangzhou, following the new agreement, there are signs the scope of their cooperation could grow. The two companies say they are jointly exploring the development of other international routes.

Oriens Aviation, the exclusive UK Pilatus Service Centre and sales distributor of the PC-12, is widening its expertise at its London Biggin Hill facilities to start offering EASA Pilatus PC-12 SET class rating pilot training from January 2019.
|
In a newly-ratified partnership with Jonathan Shooter’s Oysterair, who are a specialist Approved Training Organisation in high performance aeroplane training, trainees will cover EASA and FAA certified class rating courses – ground and flight instruction - at Oriens’ HQ.
|
The EASA PC-12 class rating course caters for a wide range of experience, from the PPL (A) holder with instrument rating and a minimum 200 flying hours’ experience with 70 hours Pilot in Command, to the most experienced pilots.
|
The move into flight training comes one year after Oriens launched Oriens Maintenance, acquiring the Avalon Aero facility at London Biggin Hill. The business is steadily growing and the business will be handling 20 PC-12s from next year, in addition to other business turboprops and Cessna Citation types.
