Pratt & Whitney has delivered the GTF™ PW1900G production engines for the E195-E2 aircraft at Embraer's E2 final assembly line in Brazil. The E195-E2 is expected to enter into service in the second half of 2019 with Azul Brazilian Airlines.
|
Embraer's E190-E2 aircraft, which is also powered by the Pratt & Whitney PW1900G engine, entered service in April 2018 with Widerøe, followed by Air Astana in December 2018.
|
In addition to being selected as the exclusive propulsion system for the E2 commercial aircraft, Pratt & Whitney's APS2600E auxiliary power unit (APU) is the sole-sourced APU for the E2 family. The APS2600E APU gives airlines greater flexibility, by increasing the altitude ceiling for ETOPS and other operations, and providing a significant increase in electrical power delivery to meet the needs of today's airlines.

The E195-E2 aircraft has more than 24% reduction in fuel burn per seat than the previous-generation E195, with NOx emissions 50% below the ICAO CAEP/6 regulation and 19dB to 20dB of ICAO Chapter 4 cumulative noise margin.

Wizz Air has announced two new services from Castellón to Budapest and Katowice. The new routes provide countless opportunities for leisure and business travellers to plan their trip to these popular destinations.

The first WIZZ flight took off from Spain in May 2004 and since then the airline has continuously increased its network, offering now a total of 55 routes to 10 countries from 12 Spanish airports.

With the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirming the country’s complicity with
international safety standards, Vietnamese airlines have been granted access to the U.S. commercial aviation market, allowing the country’s carriers to both fly to the U.S., and also codeshare with American carriers. Vietnamese airlines that will now be able to fly to the U.S. include Vietnam Airlines JSC, Bamboo Airways and VietJet Aviation JSC.

There is an immediate concern that Vietnamese airlines may struggle to make routes to the U.S. profitable owing to a lack of high-paying business travelers. According to Reuters, Bamboo Airways Chairman Trinh Van Quyet confirmed that Bamboo Airways was considering destinations such as Seattle, Los Angeles and San Francisco, with the first route to open in late 2020 or early 2021. The airline has placed an order for 20 Boeing Co 787s for long-haul flights.

Vietnam Airlines said it was in talks with Airbus and Boeing about potential jet purchases for the U.S. route, though these won’t arrive prior to 2022, but existing codeshares with Delta Air Lines could be expanded after the rating.
|
Low-cost carrier VietJet confirmed its intention to acquire wide-body jets capable of non-stop U.S. flights, believeing its experience in keeping costs down will give it an effective business model.

VietJet’s vice president To Viet Thang said in a statement: “We plan to open routes to cities with Vietnamese communities living in the United States such as in California, serving the large traveling and commercial demand from customers,”

Boeing and the U.S. Navy have received U.S. Department of Defense approval to offer the EA-18G Growler to Finland. Previously only Australia had been authorized to purchase the airborne electronic attack (AEA) aircraft.
|
Boeing and the Navy have offered the Growler and F/A-18 Super Hornet in a response to query issued by the Finnish Ministry of Defense as part of their HX fighter program procurement.
|
“All strike fighter aircraft rely on Growler escort to increase survivability during high-threat missions,” said Dan Gillian, Boeing vice president, F/A-18 and EA-18G programs. “The combination of the Super Hornet Block III and Growler would provide Finland with superior technological capability particularly suited to Finland’s HX mission requirements.”

FedEx Corp. has appointed Raj Subramaniam President and Chief Operating Officer, effective March 1. This appointment follows David J. Bronczek’s personal decision to retire as President and Chief Operating Officer and from the Board.
|
Subramaniam will continue to serve as President and CEO of FedEx Express and will also serve as co-president and co-CEO of FedEx Services.
|
Subramaniam has been with FedEx for more than 27 years and has held various executive level positions in several operating companies and international regions.

Nordic Aviation Capital (NAC) has delivered one ATR 72-600, MSN 1464, to Far Eastern Air Transport Corporation (FAT) on lease.

Far Eastern Air Transport (FAT) is a privately-owned airline providing scheduled international passenger and cargo services from its Taipei base to destinations in China and Taiwan, as well as scheduled domestic services linking Taipei and Kaohsiung with regional cities. Domestic and international charter flights are also offered.

BA CityFlyer, the British carrier, is providing a nonstop connection between Munich and London City Airport. Passengers can depart daily for the UK capital with an Embraer E190 airliner. The flight takes around two hours. Munich is now connected to five London airports.
|
Employees of BA CityFlyer and Munich Airport celebrated the inaugural flight with a traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Finnair has reported that full year 2018 revenue increased by 10.4% to €2,834.6 million. Available seat kilometres grew by 14.8% and the passenger load factor was 81.8%, down 1.5 points compared to full year 2017.
|
Comparable operating result was €169.4 million compared to €170.4 million in 2017. Operating result was €207.5 million compared to €224.8 million compared to full year 2017.
|
Net cash flow from operating activities was €383.1 million and net cash flow from investing activities was €-194.0 million.
|
Unit revenue decreased by 3.9%. Unit revenue at constant currency decreased by 2.6%.
|

Airbus has signed a new Flight Hour Services (FHS) contract with soon-to-be A350 XWB operator Japan Airlines (JAL). Airbus is welcoming JAL into its FHS Components Services programme for its new fleet of 31 A350-900 and A350-1000 aircraft.
|
Airbus FHS will provide fully integrated component services including spare pool access, on-site-stock replenishment at the main base and components repair.
|
Through FHS, Airbus offers airlines its extensive and proven expertise in fully integrated maintenance services, and the advantage of its OEM expertise as well as one single interface to manage their whole fleets and associated component support operations.

Air Canada has reported full year 2018 EBITDAR of CA$2.851 billion compared to full year 2017 record EBITDAR of CA$2.928 billion. Air Canada reported an EBITDAR margin of 15.8%, in line with its projections. Air Canada reported 2018 operating income of CA$1.174 billion compared to 2017 operating income of CA$1.371 billion. Adjusted pre-tax income amounted to CA$952 million in 2018 compared to adjusted pre-tax income of CA$1.165 billion in 2017.

On a GAAP basis, the airline reported net income of CA$167 million in 2018 compared to net income of CA$2.029 billion in 2017. The decrease of CA$1.862 billion in net income year-over-year is mainly due to an increase in net tax expense of CA$981 million, unfavourable foreign exchange results of CA$437 million and Air Canada having a recorded a loss on disposal of assets of CA$188 million in 2018.
