Unable to obtain emergency funding, Jet Airways, India’s second-largest commercial airline, has cancelled all flights Wednesday, April 17. "Jet Airways is compelled to cancel all its international and domestic flights. The last flight will operate today," it said in a statement on Wednesday, adding that the decision would take "immediate effect". The carrier confirmed it had no other option as a consortium of lenders had refused its request for emergency interim funding, leaving it unable to pay for fuel or other critical services to keep operations going. With a current debt of approximately US$1.2 billion, the airline has recently been forced to dramatically shrink its operations, primarily due to lessors deregistering planes in order subsequently reclaim them and lease them to another operator, and an inability to carry out standard maintenance and repairs on other grounded aircraft.

At its peak Jet Airways was operating over 120 jets, providing a combined 600 international
and domestic flights on a daily basis. More recently the airline’s fleet had shrunk to five operational aircraft and only provided a very limited domestic service. An analysis of the latest data disclosed by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation shows that Jet Airways’ lessors have, so far, sought to
deregister and repossess at least 48 planes operated by Jet, while it is understood that lessors had applied to deregulate a further four Boeing 737 jets.

Separately on Wednesday, two sources at state-run banks told Reuters news agency that the
banks had rejected the 4bn rupees (US$58m) that Jet had sought to keep itself temporarily afloat, while its lenders attempted to identify an investor willing to acquire a majority stake in the airline and attempt to turn it around. "Bankers did not want to go for a piecemeal approach which would keep the carrier flying for a few days and then again risk having Jet come back for more interim
funding," said one of the bank sources directly involved in the airline's debt resolution process.

The European “Bionic Aircraft” research project has reached yet another milestone for additive manufacturing: For the first time ever, components can be printed directly from the CATIA V5 CAD system. This is made possible with the interface developed by CENIT. With it, there is no need to leave the development environment. All process steps, including post-processing, can be mapped in CATIA V5. Now, exact data is available in CATIA V5 for removing the support structures during 3D part post-processing - elaborate reconstructions of the model and the support structures are a thing of the past. Future users will be able to reduce their time and costs resulting from the closed process chain for additive manufacturing, because now the development process for a part until series maturity has become significantly leaner.

Jochen Michael, Senior Consultant at CENIT, provides background information: “Support structures of additive manufactured components should not be removed manually in series production, but instead with NC machines. When creating NC programs of this type, the STL format, which in the past was used primarily for the representation of component and support structures in the 3D print data chain, is inadequate, because it can only represent the geometry imprecisely. In that case, the model and support structures must be reconstructed for refinishing, resulting in unnecessary expense. We can prevent this with the 3D print from CATIA V5 directly, because the exact geometry data for this post-processing is already available.”

In order for the 3D print to be successful via CATIA V5, CENIT provides support to the engineer in the preparation of data from topology optimization. During topology optimization, in a computer-aided process, the material for the component is reduced to the amount that is absolutely necessary to meet the requirements. The CATIA V5 Slicer, newly developed by CENIT, then slices the component into layers. The contours of these slices are sent directly to the 3D printer via the post-processor developed by CENIT.

Spatial, a provider of cabin crew training simulators, is to manufacture a hybrid A320/A330 Cabin Emergency Evacuation Trainer (CEET) for Azul. Manufactured at Spatial’s 50,000 square feet facility in Dubai, the CEET will be specifically designed to provide a highly realistic training environment for the Brazilian airline’s cabin crew.

The state-of-the-art simulator will enable crew to become proficient in vital Safety and Emergency Procedures (SEPs) of the A320 aircraft type including door operation, evacuation, fire and smoke training, cabin communications and aircraft systems familiarisation, secure cockpit procedures and emergency equipment usage.
|
The CEET will be fitted with a fully functional galley, cabin lighting, passenger seating, replica lavatories, overhead stowage and attendant seats so that the simulator can also be used for passenger service and management training. The CEET will be fitted with an A330 door that will enable crew to train in the safe operation of this door type under a variety of normal, abnormal and emergency conditions.

Airbus Helicopters has expanded its industrial footprint and partnership with China with the opening of the H135 final assembly line in Qingdao. The factory is the first helicopter FAL built by a foreign manufacturer in China, as well as the first H135 FAL outside of Europe.
|
The opening of this FAL follows a cooperation agreement signed between Airbus Helicopters and China in 2016 for the purchase of 100 H135s destined for the Chinese market. Ninety-five of these 100 helicopters will be assembled on this FAL from 2019 onwards. Main components including the main fuselage, main gearbox kits and rear fuselage will be shipped to Qingdao from Donauwörth, Germany and Albacete, Spain respectively.

The 6,500 m² Qingdao plant is composed of four working stations, a paint booth, ground and flight test areas, and a delivery centre. The site will employ around 40 people, 23 of whom received on-the-job training in Donauwörth. The first aircraft roll-out from Qingdao is expected to take place in the second half of 2019. Operations will start with an annual capacity of 18 helicopters, which could be doubled to accommodate future growth.

Bombardier Commercial Aircraft has delivered the first two of four CRJ900 aircraft to Uganda National Airlines Company. The new airline has selected Bombardier and the CRJ900 regional jets fitted with the ATMOSPHÈRE cabin for its upcoming debut, making it the first operator in Africa with this enhanced cabin experience.

S7 Technics has become the first maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) provider in Russia and the CIS to perform base maintenance checks on the advanced Airbus A320neo narrow-body aircraft.
|
The maintenance work was conducted at the company’s Moscow Domodedovo airport site and included the 7500 FH / 5000 FC / 24-month 1С-check. A320neos from the fleet of S7 Airlines have two PW1127 engines by Pratt & Whitney.
|
25 S7 Technics engineers were involved in the first heavy maintenance checks on the A320neos, including eight specialists with B-type licences. All in all, the task required 5,000 man-hours of labour and took six days for each completed check.

The global ASC network forms an essential component of Rolls-Royce’s services portfolio for business aircraft and adds to its existing global aftermarket capabilities. Rolls-Royce has 76 ASCs with key maintenance providers worldwide allowing for rapid response times to meet its customers’ needs.

The latest member of the ASC network is Bombardier’s Tianjin Service Centre, supporting the BR710A2 engines, which power the successful Bombardier Global Express, Global Express XRS, Global 5000 and Global 6000 aircraft.

The powerful service infrastructure of the ASC network is complemented by On Wing Service specialists in the USA, Europe, Middle East and Asia as well as a number of spare parts, lease engine storage locations, all placed strategically around the world. Recently Rolls-Royce opened a new store for business aviation parts in Beijing to support its growing customer base in Greater China and Asia-Pacific.

Jet Aviation has appointed Jeremie Caillet Vice President VIP Completion Programs, effective immediately. Caillet succeeds Neil Boyle, SVP Global Completions, who is retiring at the end of May 2019. Boyle will remain active with the company through its senior advisory board.

In his new role, Caillet will be responsible for the successful execution and delivery of all VIP Completions projects, while providing leadership and direction for all aspects of VIP Completions programs. Caillet previously worked for Dassault Falcon Jet in the US and joined Jet Aviation in 2008 as Engineering Team Leader.

Airbus has been awarded an extension of the Australian Army’s Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter (ARH) Tiger through-life support (TLS) contract by the Australian Department of Defence.
|
Airbus Australia Pacific Managing Director Andrew Mathewson said that the five-year, TLS contract extension reflected the current standing of the Tiger in Australia.
|
The two-seater ARH Tiger attack helicopter serves as a key asset for the Australian Army. Today, the fleet of 22 ARH Tiger has flown over 30,000 hours, deployed for day-and-night surveillance and fire-support missions. Globally, 181 Tigers have been delivered to Australia, France, Germany and Spain, and have accumulated over 115,000 flight hours to date.

Trenchard Aviation Group has demonstrated its new all-digital Atlas On-Wing system at AIX Hamburg.
|
Developed entirely in-house, in the absence of any comparable system, the proprietary Atlas On-Wing is now enabling Trenchard Aviation Group to offer a range of benefits to its airline clients.
|
Significantly reducing paper-based tasks and planning, Atlas On-Wing is a web-based application that logs the tasks assigned by the airline, assigns them to specific engineers and specific aircraft, and records completed tasks with associated data which is then sent back to a web portal.
|
By tracking both live and historic jobs, Atlas On-Wing is able to generate instant and significantly more accurate performance and time management reports as well as streamlining communications both within Trenchard Aviation Group and between the Group and its customers.
|
Based on SSL technology, the system has been designed with a number of security features. All data captured on the tablets used by the maintenance engineers is encrypted and sent to Trenchard Aviation Groups’ own hosted server, where it is held in full compliance with GDPR, and no copy is left on the hand-held devices.
