ST Aerospace broke ground to expand its presence at Singapore’s Seletar Aerospace Park (SAP). New additions include a purpose-built General Aviation (GA) aircraft hangar, simulator centre for pilot training, facilities for aviation technical training and a VIP facility for air charter customers. Costing an estimated $26m, the facilities are expected to be ready by the end of 2012. The investment value does not include the costs of fixed based training equipment and simulators that would eventually be sited at the facilities. With a floor area of 3,960 m², the new GA hangar will double ST Aerospace’s current capacity to service business jets, helicopters and light aircraft. In total, ST Aerospace will be able to handle up to 24 GA aircraft and 11 narrow-body aircraft at any one time at its SAP facility.
Apart from the new GA hangar, ST Aerospace has also leased a 23,100 m² plot of land opposite its current site, which will be further developed to house a full suite of training and support facilities for its fast-growing commercial pilot and technical training businesses. The new facilities include a simulator centre that can house six full flight simulators and one full size fixed base simulator, as well as state-of-the-art computer-based training wired-up rooms for both Air Transport Pilot Licence and entry level ground training. Besides anticipating for growth, the suite of training facilities is also custom designed for the newly legislated Singapore Multi-crew Pilot Licence programme. The first Airbus A320 simulator will be ready for roll-in by the end of 2012.
