Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) has entered into a seven-year engine maintenance contract with Olympic Air, a subsidiary of AEGEAN Airlines, based in Greece. The agreement involves the scheduled upkeep of 28 PW127M engines that power the airline's fleet of 13 ATR passenger aircraft.
“We developed a specialised programme that is cost effective for Olympic Air and aims to achieve efficient asset management and reliable dispatch availability,” stated Irene Makris, Vice President of Customer Service at Pratt & Whitney Canada. “Olympic Air safeguards its investment value and gains reassurance by relying on our comprehensive engine maintenance solutions and services for their PW127M engine fleet.”
The PW100 engine family marks its 40th anniversary in 2024. These engines set the standard for low fuel consumption on routes up to 350 miles, consuming 25% to 40% less fuel and producing an equivalent reduction in CO2 emissions compared to similar-sized regional jets. They are also compatible with biofuels and certified for up to a 50% blend of sustainable aviation fuel.
Later this year, Olympic Air is set to receive another ATR 72-600 aircraft equipped with the latest PW127XT-M engines, now the standard on all new ATR aircraft. The PW127XT-M offers a 40% increase in time between overhauls, extending to 20,000 hours for typical regional operators. Additionally, the engine boasts a 20% reduction in maintenance costs and a 3% improvement in fuel consumption.
