An Air Busan Airbus A321 was evacuated on Tuesday night, January 28, after a fire broke out near its tail at Gimhae International Airport in Busan, South Korea. The aircraft, scheduled to fly to Hong Kong, was preparing for departure when the incident occurred at around 10:30 p.m.
All 176 people on board, including 169 passengers, six flight attendants, and a flight engineer, evacuated safely using inflatable slides. While most escaped unscathed, minor injuries were reported, and two passengers were hospitalised with bruises sustained during the evacuation.
Videos from the scene showed fire crews battling flames and smoke on the fuselage. The fire was extinguished by 11:30 p.m., but the cause remains unclear. Investigators from the Transport Ministry and the Aviation and Railway Accident Investigation Board have launched an inquiry into the incident.
Air Busan, a low-cost carrier and subsidiary of Asiana Airlines, operates domestic and international flights to and from Busan. The plane had arrived from Jeju earlier that evening, according to flight tracking data.
