This month, Lufthansa Technik (LHT) has welcomed 375 new apprentices and dual study students across its German sites, subsidiaries and joint ventures. The intake surpasses last year’s record, highlighting strong demand despite ongoing challenges in the German apprenticeship market. In total, more than 1,000 individuals are now training or studying with Lufthansa Technik in Germany, marking a new milestone.
Technical and industrial professions remain dominant, representing about 90% of all new apprenticeships. The company also continues to train specialists in logistics and commerce. Meanwhile, 41 dual students, known internally as “Technik Students”, have joined this year, a slight drop compared with 2023. These students are pursuing bachelor’s and master’s degrees in disciplines ranging from aircraft and mechanical engineering to industrial engineering, IT and applied physics.
Of the new recruits, around 250 are directly employed by Lufthansa Technik AG, with about 60 placed at Lufthansa Airlines’ technical operations. The rest are spread across other group companies. Female representation among the newcomers stands at nearly 12%, maintaining a double-digit presence. The company has restated its goal of increasing this proportion in future intakes.
Altogether, Lufthansa Technik now employs 1,024 apprentices and dual students across Germany, setting a fresh record. According to Alicja Polednia, Senior Director People Attraction, Development & Leadership, the achievement is less about numbers and more about securing the company’s future workforce. She noted that filling all vacancies reflects Lufthansa Technik’s attractiveness as an employer and the success of its strengthened recruitment campaigns.
Looking ahead, Lufthansa Technik plans to maintain high intake levels. Applications for the 2026 training and study programmes have already opened, signalling continued commitment to developing skilled talent for the aviation industry.
