Pilot killed as Spanish military training jet crashes off Murcia coastline

A C-101 training jet has crashed off the Spanish coast near La Manga. The aircraft was believed to have been part of the Patrulla Aguila, Spain’s aerobatic display team equivalent to the U.K.’s Red Arrows. While initial reports stated that the pilot had ejected safely and that there was no-one else on board, Reuters News Agency has subsequently reported that, tragically, the pilot was killed in the accident which occurred at 0738 GMT, Monday, August 26.

Seven people were killed on Sunday when a helicopter and a small plane collided in the air above the Spanish island of Mallorca, the Balearic Islands authorities said. Five people, including two children, were in the helicopter, and two adults were in the plane when the accident happened close to Inca, an inland town on the Mediterranean island.
