Rex has announced the certification of its Boeing 737NG full-flight simulator (FFS) by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), marking its readiness for operational use. The Level D FFS is adaptable for both 737-700 and 737-800 variants and holds approval for upset prevention and recovery training (UPRT).
Originally located at Ansett Aviation Training (AAT) facilities in Brisbane, the Rex full-flight simulator underwent relocation when AAT declined to extend the lease term upon its expiration in 2023. Presented with the choice of selling the simulator to AAT or relocating it, Rex opted for the latter, refusing to succumb to coercion. Consequently, construction commenced on a purpose-built simulator centre adjacent to Rex Head Office in Mascot, Sydney.
Paul Fisher, Rex' General Manager of Flight Operations and Chief Pilot, expressed satisfaction with the simulator's seamless commissioning at its new site, noting enhancements facilitated by the installation of new hydraulic and electrical components. Fisher remarked, “This milestone marks a significant step in bolstering the support for our expanding 737 fleet, underscoring the Rex Board and Management's steadfast commitment to safety through investment in this pivotal training infrastructure.”
He further added, “In addition to meeting our internal training needs, the simulator opens avenues for training collaboration with external operators, both domestically and internationally, amplifying its utility beyond Rex' operations.”
