On Wednesday, March 27, AAR CORP. commenced the construction of its new maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility in Miami, marking a significant milestone for the company.
Over 400 attendees congregated to commemorate the occasion, with John M. Holmes, AAR’s Chairman, President and CEO, expressing gratitude for the collaborative efforts enabling the expansion. James Crane, Vice President of Tech Ops – Heavy Maintenance at United Airlines, Ralph Cutié, Director and CEO of Miami International Airport (MIA) and Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava also conveyed their excitement for the project in prepared statements.
Spanning 114,000 ft², the new facility will be located adjacent to AAR’s existing hangar at MIA, boosting the maintenance capacity of its airframe MRO by 33%. The three-bay facility will specifically cater to United Airlines’ narrow-body maintenance needs, generating over 200 employment opportunities in Miami.
Miami-Dade County has committed to reimbursing the construction costs, with the facility slated to become operational by October 2025.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava emphasised the significance of the expansion, stating, “As a leader in international passengers and cargo, MIA is one of the busiest and best mega airports in the country – and AAR’s significant infrastructure investment only advances our local aviation industry. This expansion will strengthen the robust training and repair programmes AAR is known for and bring more than 200 new jobs to Miami-Dade County.”
