Following successful mediation, Lufthansa and the trade union Ver.di have reached an agreement on the main features of a collective labour agreement for approximately 25,000 Lufthansa employees, announced in Frankfurt. Details of the agreement to be disclosed this Thursday, March 28, 2024.
Ver.di chief negotiator Marvin Reschinsky expressed satisfaction with the arbitration outcome, while Lufthansa’s Chief Human Resources Officer Michael Niggemann also expressed contentment, albeit with acknowledgment of forthcoming major investments. The agreed-upon salary increases will incur additional costs.
Ver.di had initially demanded a 12.5% pay raise for Lufthansa ground services employees for a one-year term, while the company proposed 10% for a 28-month term.
The resolution comes after five unsuccessful negotiation rounds and multiple warning strikes, with both parties opting for mediation to avoid strikes during the Easter holidays.
In addition to the ground staff, Lufthansa flight attendants, represented by the sector union Ufo, recently engaged in industrial action. Arbitration has also been slated for approximately 25,000 private aviation security staff in the week following Easter.
