Lufthansa Technik Malta (LTM) has achieved a significant milestone by successfully completing its inaugural base maintenance on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The completion of the C-check on LOT Polish Airlines‘ B787-9, registered as SP-LSC, follows closely after last year's announcement of LTM's expansion into Boeing's renowned long-haul wide-body aircraft.
Investing several million euros in preparation for Boeing 787 technical support, LTM focused on training its technical experts and acquiring necessary tools and materials. Within Lufthansa Technik's global network, LTM now strengthens its role as the European hub for wide-body aircraft base maintenance.
The C-check encompasses thorough inspections of the aircraft's systems and structure, notably significant for the Boeing 787's extensive use of composite materials. Drawing on years of experience supporting modern materials, particularly with Airbus A350 aircraft, LTM demonstrated proficiency. Additionally, LTM benefited from expertise across other international Lufthansa Technik locations, particularly in various non-destructive testing (NDT) procedures for composite materials.
Maria Cilia, LTM's Chief Executive Officer, expressed the significance of the achievement: “After years of servicing only Airbus models here in Malta, it feels special that we now once again actively service a Boeing aircraft type. And with LOT's unique special livery, what better way could there have been to introduce the Dreamliner in our facility,” said Maria Cilia, LTM's Chief Executive Officer. “This is an important milestone for us and stands as further testament to how much this company has grown and evolved into a wide-body centre of excellence. I would like to thank our customers for their great trust in our services. Special thanks goes to my team for their dedication, passion and continued commitment to our customers and our company.”
