Airbus has unveiled plans to set up a Tech Hub in Japan, aiming to forge new partnerships to propel research, technology and innovation in aerospace. This venture seeks to push the frontiers of aerospace technology, preparing for the next generation of aircraft. Centrally coordinated from Tokyo, the Airbus Tech Hub will concentrate on three principal research domains: developing new materials, advancing decarbonisation technologies and enhancing robotics and automation.
The initiative has garnered support from both the Japanese and French governments and was announced at Viva Technology 2024 in Paris, a premier global technology exhibition where Japan is the country of honour this year.
Dignitaries at the announcement included representatives from the Japanese Embassy in France, the French Directorate-General for Civil Aviation (DGAC), the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), and Airbus.
“We are proud to have launched the Airbus Tech Hub in Japan in close partnership with DGAC and METI. Airbus sees Japan as a key country for future partnerships. The launch of the Airbus Tech Hub reflects our commitment to building further on our presence in the country.” said Sabine Klauke, Chief Technology Officer Airbus.
The Japanese Tech Hub is part of Airbus's global network, complementing similar hubs established in Singapore and the Netherlands earlier this year. These Tech Hubs are designed to facilitate collaboration among Airbus's global R&T teams, industry leaders, local research communities, and academic institutions, fostering vibrant communities that drive advancements in aerospace technology and prepare for the future of aviation.
