MTU Maintenance Canada has celebrated the completion of its 1,500th shop visit, marking this milestone with the redelivery of a V2500-A5 engine operated by Spirit Airlines. The V2500, especially the -A5 model and its -E5 military variant, has become a cornerstone of MTU Maintenance Canada's services. The company holds worldwide exclusivity for working on the -E5 variant on behalf of the engine OEM.
Since the introduction of the V2500 programme in 2017, MTU Maintenance Canada has completed over 300 shop visits. Uwe Zachau, MTU Maintenance Canada's CEO and President, praised the team's expertise and commitment:
“At MTU Maintenance Canada, we have seen some of the most popular engines in aviation history, and the collective competence amassed over the last decades drives our success forward. I want to thank our engine experts for bringing their very best every day and to Spirit Airlines for entrusting their engines with MTU.”
Spirit Airlines, a major low-cost U.S. airline and the country's seventh largest, has been an MTU customer since 2019.
The company's facility in Delta, British Columbia, is part of a broader network that includes V2500 engine MRO portfolios in Hannover, Germany, and Zhuhai, China. Besides the V2500, MTU Maintenance Canada specialises in the MRO of GE Aerospace's CF6-80 and its F138 military variant. The facility also serves as the MTU network's centre of excellence for the repair of line replaceable units (LRU) such as pumps, actuators, cables, and harnesses for various engines, including GE90-110/115B, CFM56, and LEAP.
With over 550 engine experts employed, the Canadian facility conducts more than 90 shop visits annually. In September 2023, MTU Maintenance Canada further expanded its capabilities by opening a new training academy for future engine mechanics in collaboration with the British Columbia Institute of Technology.
