Boeing and EL AL Israel Airlines (EL AL) have announced that the Israeli flag carrier has finalised an agreement for up to 31 737 MAX jets, supporting the airline's plans to renew its fleet of next-generation 737 aircraft.
EL AL's CEO, Dina Ben-Tal Ganancia, highlighted that this agreement marks a crucial step for the airline, enabling it to offer customers cutting-edge service and technology. This deal is part of a long-term procurement strategy, which began earlier this year with the purchase of additional 787 Dreamliners, reaffirming the airline's commitment to both the Israeli public and the state.
Ben-Tal Ganancia further emphasised EL AL's pivotal role in maintaining open skies for Israel. The strategic plan aims to expand the fleet, enhance customer value and increase capacity, ensuring the airline's growth and stability for years to come.
The 737 MAX family will provide the airline with exceptional per-seat economics, improved environmental performance and greater passenger comfort. The 737 MAX is expected to reduce fuel consumption and emissions by 20% compared to the aircraft it replaces and will have a 50% smaller noise footprint.
EL AL's 737 MAX order follows its purchase earlier this year of three additional 787-9 aircraft, with options for six more, as the airline continues to expand its 787 Dreamliner fleet. EL AL is scheduled to take delivery of a new 787-9 this year, with two more expected on lease in the near future.
