IAG Cargo, the freight division of International Airlines Group (IAG), has opened its state-of-the-art operations control centre at its largest hub, London Heathrow. The new centre is set to enhance on-the-day decision-making by leveraging comprehensive real-time data and workload forecasting tools. These tools will assist teams in managing over 2,000 freight movements daily, enabling them to take proactive measures to mitigate operational risks.
At the core of this facility lies cutting-edge audio-visual and data visualisation technology at each workstation, complemented by a new digital wall designed to improve coordination, situational awareness, and visualisation of crucial operational data. This investment is poised to drive significant improvements in operational efficiency, allowing teams to monitor real-time positioning of all freight and equipment across the expansive London Heathrow hub. Additionally, key data from various operational systems will be accessible on a centralised platform, enhancing the overall management process.
David Rose, Director of London Operations at IAG Cargo, commented, “The opening of our new London Operations Control Centre exemplifies IAG Cargo's commitment to being a customer-focused and operationally efficient business, as well as a great place to work for our teams. This new facility represents a major leap forward in our operational management in London and will fundamentally transform how we oversee our day-to-day operations. Our teams will be equipped with the tools to enhance operational quality and the technology to anticipate and address potential issues before they arise. This is a significant milestone in our ambitious transformation plan at IAG Cargo.”
In addition to this technological investment, IAG Cargo is introducing six new senior management roles to oversee day-to-day operations at the control centre, ensuring consistent high-quality performance for customers around the clock. Teams working in the new control centre have also contributed to the development of the facility, with their feedback instrumental in shaping its final design.
