The U.S. Government has awarded Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin company, a Foreign Military Sale contract to supply 35 UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters to Greece. This agreement, intended for the Hellenic Army, includes personnel training, specialised training equipment and an initial supply package. These additions will boost Greece’s self-defence capabilities and improve interoperability with NATO allies.
Costas Papadopoulos, Lockheed Martin’s Executive Director for Greece, highlighted the Black Hawk as “the workhorse of multi-mission medium lift aircraft” and a valuable asset to Greece’s growing fleet, which includes upgraded F-16Vs, MH-60Rs, and C-130s, with future F-35s planned. This expanded fleet will provide the Hellenic Armed Forces with extensive capabilities across air, land, and sea, enhancing Greece’s regional security for years to come.
With its existing S-70B and MH-60R helicopters, Greece will operate multiple variants of the Hawk family, leveraging the benefits of fleet commonality, which include operational efficiency and streamlined maintenance. The Black Hawk’s versatile design allows it to conduct a wide range of operations, even in challenging environments, improving survivability and effectiveness for critical security missions.
Building on Lockheed Martin’s partnership with Greece spanning over 80 years, the company remains committed to supporting Greece’s growing defence capabilities. Greece is now the 12th European nation to operate the Black Hawk. In 2024 alone, the U.S. Government has contracted Sikorsky to deliver 84 UH-60M Black Hawks to various countries across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and South America, underscoring the Black Hawk’s status as a premier multi-role utility helicopter worldwide.
