Embraer has signed a contract to deliver four A-29 Super Tucano light attack and advanced trainer aircraft to an undisclosed customer in Africa. These versatile aircraft will support a broad range of missions, including border surveillance, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), close air support, counterinsurgency operations, and advanced flight training.
Renowned for its multi-mission capability, the A-29 Super Tucano offers exceptional operational flexibility and availability. Its robust airframe allows it to operate from unpaved runways in harsh environments, making it suitable for armed reconnaissance, close air support, light attack, and advanced training missions. With over 290 orders globally and more than 570,000 flight hours logged, including 60,000 in combat, the aircraft has established itself as the global leader in its class.
In 2024, Embraer secured additional sales of the Super Tucano to the Portuguese Air Force (A-29N), the Uruguayan Air Force and the Paraguayan Air Force. These recent acquisitions underscore its reputation as an efficient, reliable, and cost-effective solution for air forces worldwide.
Designed with state-of-the-art technology, the A-29 Super Tucano features advanced systems for precise target identification, weapons integration, and communication. Its human-machine interface avionics enhance pilot effectiveness, while the robust airframe ensures high reliability in austere environments with minimal infrastructure. Additionally, the aircraft's straightforward maintenance design ensures low life cycle costs and maximises operational availability.
