Qatar Airways has announced the resumption of three weekly flights to Damascus, Syria, starting on January 7, 2025. This marks a significant milestone in reconnecting the region and offering passengers seamless access to Qatar Airways' extensive global network of over 170 destinations.
The decision to restart operations in Syria comes after a hiatus of over 12 years. The airline suspended flights to Damascus in 2012 due to the escalation of the Syrian civil war, which raised concerns over safety and security. The prolonged conflict and instability in the region made it challenging for airlines to maintain operations in the country.
The return of Qatar Airways to Syria reflects both the improving stability in certain areas of the country and the growing demand for travel to and from Damascus. The airline is working closely with relevant authorities to ensure that all necessary safety, security, and operational measures are met to provide passengers with a seamless and reliable service.
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, said: “We are pleased to resume flights to Damascus, a destination of great historical and cultural importance. This announcement underscores our dedication to fostering connectivity and facilitating travel for our passengers.”
