Challenge Group announced at a press conference at its headquarters in Malta last week, its leasing of two additional Boeing 777-300ERSF converted freighters from AerCap. This makes Challenge Group the first European operator of these aircraft, often referred to as the “Big Twins.” These passenger-to-freighter conversions are distinguished by their enhanced cargo capacity and superior fuel efficiency, reinforcing Challenge Group's commitment to innovation and sustainability in air cargo operations.
This announcement comes after Challenge Group concluded 2024 with outstanding achievements, further cementing its position as a major force in the air cargo industry. The Group expanded its fleet to ten aircraft, successfully completing its Boeing 767 conversion programme. It has operated over 4,000 flights, transported more than 200,000 tonnes of cargo, and secured CEIV lithium battery certification, complementing its existing certifications for pharma and live animal transport.
Notable shipments during the year included 5,000 horses, 600 aircraft engines, and over 25,000 e-commerce and dangerous goods consignments. Furthermore, the Group added five new destinations to its network: Milan, Dubai, Mumbai, Delhi and Nairobi. These accomplishments set the stage for even greater milestones in the future.
