The incident involved an American Airlines regional passenger jet and a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter, which collided in close proximity to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
The American Airlines regional jet, operated by PSA Airlines under the American Eagle brand, was a Bombardier CRJ700 aircraft, en route from Wichita Dwight D. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has launched an official investigation into the incident. Investigators have recovered the flight data and cockpit voice recorders from the American Airlines plane, and these are now being analysed. A preliminary report is expected to be released within the next 30 days.

Authorities continue to investigate the causes of the collision and are committed to ensuring that such an event does not happen again.
