Lufthansa Technik (LHT) is expanding its services by offering used serviceable materials (USM) directly to airlines and operators, marking a significant shift from its previous approach of selling surplus parts to third-party traders. This move is designed to address the growing demand for aircraft components in a market that is increasingly constrained. The new service provides airlines and operators with a quicker, more cost-effective route to access high-quality, certified parts.
As a global leader in MRO services, Lufthansa Technik operates one of the largest component pools in the aviation industry. While it has traditionally sold surplus parts, it is now offering a broader range of USM components, including those generated through teardown processes. Each part undergoes rigorous testing and certification to meet Lufthansa Technik's stringent safety and performance standards.
The direct sales of USM parts offer a more efficient way for airlines and operators to obtain certified components without intermediaries. The parts are made available on key platforms like Aeroxchange, ensuring easy access for customers. The service is managed by a dedicated team within Lufthansa Technik's U.S. subsidiary, Lufthansa Technik Component Services, based in Miami. This team handles customer orders and ensures a smooth procurement process, while a warehouse in Fort Lauderdale facilitates distribution across the Americas. Additionally, the company is expanding its component workshop in Tulsa to further support its growing USM business.
Lufthansa Technik plans to showcase its new USM solution at MRO Americas 2025 in Atlanta, highlighting the innovative approach to meeting the evolving needs of the aviation industry.
