GKN Aerospace has been awarded a new three-year contract by Boeing to carry out fan blade repair services for the engines powering the C-17 Globemaster aircraft. The work will specifically support the Pratt & Whitney F117-100 / PW2000 dual-use engines, which are critical to the operation of this strategic airlift platform used extensively by air forces around the world.
Drawing on more than 15 years of proven expertise in PW2000 fan blade repair, GKN Aerospace will perform the work at its recently opened, purpose-built facility in San Diego, California. The site, which spans 150,000 ft², is equipped with the latest automation technology and advanced robotics to deliver efficient, high-quality repairs with improved consistency and shorter turnaround times.
This contract represents a significant step forward in GKN Aerospace's ongoing investment in its maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services. It also reflects the company's commitment to supporting both military and civil aviation markets with innovative and dependable repair capabilities. The San Diego site alone has the capacity to process up to 80,000 fan blades each year and currently supports more than 400 customers across the aerospace industry.
The expanded facility enhances GKN Aerospace's ability to maintain the highest standards of performance, reliability, and customer service, while also strengthening its longstanding relationship with Boeing. The agreement highlights the company's continued dedication to sustaining global defence operations and advancing its technical capabilities to meet evolving customer needs.
