Qatar Airways and Boeing have announced a landmark agreement for the purchase of up to 210 wide-body aircraft, marking the largest wide-body order in Boeing's history. This includes the biggest order for 787 Dreamliners to date, and it represents Qatar Airways' largest-ever aircraft acquisition.
The deal comprises 130 787 Dreamliners — a long-range, ultra-efficient aircraft family that boasts a 25% improvement in fuel consumption compared to the aircraft it replaces, while offering enhanced passenger comfort. Ten of these orders were previously listed as unidentified.
Also included are 30 777-9s, the world's largest twin-engine aircraft, engineered to reduce fuel use and emissions by 25% while setting a new benchmark for passenger experience. The agreement also contains options for an additional 50 aircraft across the 787 and 777X ranges.
This significant investment is expected to support approximately 400,000 jobs in the United States and will further strengthen Qatar Airways' global expansion plans. The airline currently operates over 150 Boeing aircraft, including 777 and 787 passenger jets and 777 Freighters. With this new deal, Qatar Airways is set to become the largest operator of 787 Dreamliners in the Middle East.
Qatar Airways also signed an agreement for more than 400 engines with GE Aerospace, including 60 GE9X and 260 GEnx engines, with additional options and spares, to power its next-generation Boeing 777-9 and Boeing 787 aircraft.
U.S. President Donald J. Trump and His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, were present at the order signing, alongside Boeing President and CEO Kelly Ortberg, Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Stephanie Pope, and Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer.
