N3 Engine Overhaul Services (N3), the joint venture between Lufthansa Technik and Rolls-Royce for the overhaul and repair of Rolls-Royce Trent engines, has celebrated a key construction-milestone in its ongoing expansion programme. The ceremony marks significant progress on two major elements: the extension of the engine workshop and the expansion of the cleaning facility for engine components.
“With today's topping-out ceremony, we are reaching another important milestone on our growth path, and we are doing so during ongoing operations with an increasing number of engine overhauls,” says N3's new Managing Director Holger Sindemann.
Stefan Landes, who has been involved in the construction project as N3 Managing Director from the outset states: “We are not only investing in buildings and technology, but also in modern processes and sustainability and are offering additional, state-of-the-art and future-proof jobs”
Commissioning of both parts of the building is scheduled for the end of 2025, by which time the new machinery and systems will also be installed. Alongside the building expansion, the office areas at N3 are being transformed into a modern, open-plan layout. The initial phases of this renovation have already been completed, with some teams relocating to the new workspace in recent weeks.
The overall project also includes the expansion of the canteen building, with preparatory construction work already underway, as well as the development of a logistics centre on the factory site, marked by a ground-breaking ceremony this summer.
In total, N3, together with its parent companies Lufthansa Technik and Rolls-Royce, is investing approximately €150 million in the Erfurter Kreuz site. (US$168 million).
