Liebherr has announced a strategic realignment and expansion of its operations at Liebherr-Transportation Systems Marica EOOD in Bulgaria. The company will establish a new, larger production site near its current location, which will eventually be vacated. The new facility, spanning 20,000 m², is expected to be fully operational by 2026 and marks a significant investment in the future of Liebherr’s manufacturing capabilities in the region.
This development will allow Liebherr to further enhance its existing production for the railway and commercial vehicle markets. In addition, the company will introduce new assembly capabilities for aerospace applications at the new facility. Over the coming years, the company plans to ramp up production of flight control systems and air management systems, reflecting increasing demand across the aviation industry.
The new assembly operations will be crucial in meeting rising market needs and will underpin the company’s long-term industrial performance. They will also contribute to Liebherr’s double-sourcing strategy, which is designed to increase supply chain resilience and position the company as a key supplier for next-generation transport systems.
The expansion will generate new employment opportunities in the Plovdiv region. While the current site will eventually close, Liebherr has emphasised that it aims to retain the existing workforce by supporting growth in other product segments and operational areas, ensuring job stability during the transition.
