Pratt & Whitney, an RTX business, has secured a US$3.8 billion contract modification covering lots 18–19 of the F135 engine, which powers all three variants of the F-35 Lightning II.
The modification finalises lot 18 F135 propulsion system production and provides for propulsion systems supporting lot 19 F-35 aircraft. The total value of the lots 18–19 contract awarded to Pratt & Whitney now stands at US$6.6 billion.
The contract covers full-rate production engines, initial spares, modules, engineering support, programme oversight and dedicated production services. It also ensures capacity, tooling, and uninterrupted manufacturing and supply chain operations both for US military services and international customers.
Pratt & Whitney has invested more than US$1 billion over the past five years to expand and modernise its global production capacity, increasing F135 output by 20% compared with previous contract rates.
The F135 programme supports more than 66,000 jobs across 47 states and territories and generated over US$9 billion in domestic economic impact in 2025. To date, Pratt & Whitney has delivered more than 1,400 production F135 engines for the F-35 programme, which includes 20 allied nations worldwide.
