Embraer has unveiled its latest 20-year market outlook, forecasting demand for 10,500 new aircraft with fewer than 150 seats, including both jets and turboprops. This projection highlights the manufacturer’s confidence in the continued expansion of regional aviation and the essential role smaller aircraft will play in shaping the industry’s future.
According to Embraer, this surge in demand will be fuelled by several global factors: the resurgence of regional air travel post-pandemic, increasing demand for connectivity in developing regions, and airline strategies aimed at enhancing operational efficiency while reducing emissions. Smaller aircraft are particularly well-suited to these needs, offering the flexibility to serve lower-density routes and access airports with limited infrastructure.
The regional segment is expected to be central to fleet renewal and growth, especially in markets across Asia-Pacific, Latin America, and Africa, where infrastructure development and population growth are driving air traffic expansion. Additionally, in mature markets such as North America and Europe, right-sized aircraft are enabling airlines to restructure networks and improve profitability by matching capacity to demand more precisely.
Embraer’s forecast suggests that these 10,500 aircraft will replace ageing fleets and meet new market requirements, supporting a shift toward more sustainable aviation. The company’s current and future product lines, including the E-Jet E2 family and next-generation turboprops, are positioned to meet these needs, offering enhanced performance, lower fuel consumption, and reduced environmental impact.
