Embraer and the State of the Netherlands have signed a milestone agreement for the delivery of a state-of-the-art aeromedical evacuation system for the Royal Netherlands Air Force's C-390 Millennium transport aircraft. The contract, which includes one confirmed order and seven additional purchase options, was formally signed at the Paris Air Show by Vice Admiral Jan Willem Hartman, Commander of the Materiel and IT Command and Bosco da Costa Junior, President & CEO of Embraer Defense & Security.
The centrepiece of the new capability is a roll-on/roll-off medical module — a compact, self-sufficient medical unit that functions as a mobile hospital. Designed for rapid deployment, the module supports a range of patient care scenarios, including those requiring full life support during transit. It is also equipped to safely transport contagious patients, incorporating protective measures for both medical teams and aircrew.
This advanced module has been engineered for full compatibility with the C-390's Cargo Handling System (CHS), allowing quick installation via the aircraft's rear ramp. The system can be deployed efficiently and without modification to the aircraft, ensuring operational readiness in a wide variety of situations.
With this capability, the Royal Netherlands Air Force will significantly strengthen its ability to carry out medical evacuations in both military and humanitarian settings. The system will prove invaluable in disaster response, armed conflict zones, and international relief missions, offering a flexible and fast medical transport option.
The agreement marks another step in the Netherlands' ongoing investment in modernising its air mobility assets while expanding the operational utility of the C-390 Millennium fleet.
