SkyWest has finalised a new agreement with GE Aerospace for CF34-8E engines, including spare units, to power its recently ordered fleet of 60 Embraer 175 regional jets. The move strengthens the long-standing relationship between the two companies and reinforces SkyWest’s continued reliance on the CF34 engine family to support its growing operations.
GE Aerospace described the agreement as a continuation of a highly successful partnership, pointing to SkyWest’s exclusive use of CF34 engines across its fleet of more than 600 aircraft. Executives at the company suggested that the deal represents another significant step in their collaboration, underscoring GE’s ability to supply high-performance engines and long-term service solutions tailored to the needs of regional carriers.
SkyWest became an early adopter of the CF34 engine in 1994, when it began operating the CF34-3B on Bombardier’s CRJ200. Since then, it has grown to become the largest operator of CF34 engines globally, with a current fleet of over 1,200 CF34-3B, -8C, and -8E engines. Company representatives have emphasised that the CF34’s proven performance and reliability have played a critical role in supporting the airline’s operations and growth.
GE Aerospace has delivered more than 11,000 CF34 engines to date, with a reputation for exceptional durability. The CF34 family boasts a 99.97% dispatch reliability rate over a 12-month rolling period, making it one of the most dependable engines in its class. All CF34 models are also compatible with approved sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) blends, supporting ongoing industry efforts towards greener aviation.
