Aeromexico, in collaboration with Embraer and Viasat is significantly enhancing its in-flight experience by installing advanced Wi-Fi connectivity across its fleet of Embraer E190 aircraft. This move marks a major step forward in integrating high-speed satellite-based internet services into the airline’s short-haul operations.
The project utilises Viasat’s global Ka-band satellite network to deliver robust, high-speed internet to passengers. Travellers aboard these aircraft will be able to stream films and live sports, browse the internet, send emails, and stay active on social media platforms, all while in the air. At present, six of Aeromexico’s E190 jets have been fitted with the new system, with the remaining 28 scheduled for installation in the coming years—bringing the total to 34 aircraft.
Andres Castañeda, Chief Digital and Customer Experience Officer & EVP at Aeromexico, stated, “We are upgrading our Aeromexico Connect E190 fleet to deliver exceptional in-flight experiences on our short-haul routes.” He added that Aeromexico will be the first airline in Latin America to offer ad-supported free messaging across its entire network by 2027, with additional paid options for more comprehensive internet usage.
Don Buchman of Viasat highlighted the growing global demand for seamless in-flight streaming and praised the partnership with Aeromexico and Embraer. Meanwhile, Embraer CEO Carlos Naufel underscored the company’s commitment to improving passenger comfort across its aircraft portfolio.
The new service, powered by Viasat Amara—Viasat’s next-generation in-flight connectivity solution—is available to all E-Jets customers worldwide.
