The Polish Air Navigation Services Agency (PANSA) has selected Saab to deliver its cutting-edge Digital Tower system for Warsaw Modlin Airport, marking a milestone in the modernisation of Polish air traffic control. This development will make Modlin the first airport in Poland to manage air traffic using a fully remote digital tower solution.
The Digital Tower will be operated from an advanced centre located at PANSA’s premises in Warsaw, allowing air traffic control to be carried out remotely in all Polish weather conditions. This move is set to enhance the efficiency, flexibility and availability of air traffic operations, while also paving the way for further digitalisation of the country’s aviation infrastructure. The system has the potential to be expanded to additional airports in Poland in the future.
Saab’s latest Digital Tower Suite is at the core of this initiative, equipped with high-resolution 4K cameras for both day and night use, along with state-of-the-art functionalities to support air traffic controllers. A multilateration (MLAT) surveillance system will also be installed, enabling accurate flight tracking in all weather scenarios.
PANSA CEO Magdalena Jaworska-Maćkowiak highlighted the transformational nature of the project, describing it as “a real change in the way we think about the safety and efficiency of air operations.” Saab Air Traffic Management CEO Cecilia Larsson expressed pride in the partnership, emphasising the shared goal of digitalising air traffic services.
With a global track record of successful deployments, Saab’s system also supports future integration with artificial intelligence and unmanned traffic management, reinforcing its role in the evolution of digital air traffic control.
