The international airline association BARIG (Board of Airline Representatives in Germany) has announced the addition of MSC Air Cargo to its growing network, marking a further expansion of its expertise in the air freight sector. MSC Air Cargo, the air freight division of the global transport and logistics giant MSC Group, brings a significant level of operational knowledge and international reach to the association.
Michael Hoppe, BARIG Chairman and Executive Director, welcomed the new member, highlighting the importance of collaboration in addressing the many challenges currently facing the air freight industry in Germany. These include high operating costs, complex bureaucratic procedures, and an urgent need for greater efficiency in processes. Hoppe emphasised that the input from over 30 international cargo carriers now within BARIG’s ranks will play a vital role in advocating for improvements and reforms that can ease the burden on the sector and enhance its competitiveness.
BARIG’s Air Cargo Committee, which coordinates the association’s freight-related initiatives, has recently undergone restructuring and now benefits from new co-chair leadership. The revamped committee is expected to be more agile and effective in addressing key industry issues.
Jannie Davel, CEO of MSC Air Cargo, expressed enthusiasm about joining BARIG, citing Germany’s importance as a global economic hub and the strategic value of being more integrated within the national air cargo landscape. Davel added that MSC Air Cargo looks forward to active participation and collaborative project development within the BARIG community.
MSC Air Cargo currently operates a fleet of modern Boeing B777-200 freighters, serving key markets across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, and its membership is seen as a valuable addition to BARIG’s efforts to advance the air freight industry in Germany.
