Wizz Air, Romania's largest airline, has announced a strategic collaboration with Romaero, a prominent local player in Aerospace and Defence, to open a dedicated aircraft maintenance centre at Romaero's facility near Bucharest's Băneasa International Airport. The announcement, made during a joint press conference last week, underlines Wizz Air's ongoing investment in Romania, where it currently operates its largest national fleet.
The new maintenance centre, set to become operational in October, will service Wizz Air's growing Romanian-based fleet, which is expected to reach 43 aircraft by the upcoming winter season. These aircraft are based in Bucharest Băneasa, Sibiu, Suceava, and Timișoara, reinforcing Romania's position as the airline's most significant operational hub across its network.
This development is the first of its kind in Romania and marks an important milestone for Wizz Air. It showcases the airline's long-term commitment to the Romanian aviation market, both by enhancing infrastructure and by contributing to local employment and skill development. The new facility will provide both heavy and light maintenance services—from complex engine changes to routine inspections—for aircraft operating within Romania and neighbouring countries.
Given the ongoing challenges of securing timely maintenance slots across Europe, especially during peak seasons, the partnership with Romaero is particularly valuable. It ensures priority servicing, reduced downtime, and more efficient operations across Wizz Air's fleet. The airline has signed a three-year contract with a certified maintenance organisation already working with Wizz Air in Italy and Albania. These efforts, combined with Romaero's resources, aim to deliver high-quality and timely services for the growing number of Wizz Air aircraft in the region.
