Air New Zealand has announced that Nikhil Ravishankar will become its next Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Greg Foran, who steps down in October 2025 after almost six years in the role. Foran’s leadership was marked by steering the airline through one of the most difficult times in aviation history.
Ravishankar, currently Air New Zealand’s Chief Digital Officer, will officially take over as CEO on October 20, 2025. Over his five years with the airline, he has played a pivotal role in strengthening its technology infrastructure, advancing its loyalty programme and enhancing the overall customer experience.
Air New Zealand Board Chair Dame Therese Walsh said the appointment signals a fresh era of leadership for the airline, one focused on innovation, connectivity and resilience. The Board undertook an international search, with Ravishankar standing out for his vision, leadership qualities and digital expertise. Walsh emphasised his commitment to delivering excellence, adapting to industry challenges and maintaining the airline’s role as a key connector for New Zealand.
She highlighted that airlines face evolving challenges, from climate change and shifting customer expectations to technology and cost pressures. Ravishankar’s leadership, combining New Zealand values with global experience, was seen as essential to navigating these complexities while continuing to deliver value to customers and stakeholders.
Before joining Air New Zealand, Ravishankar held senior roles at Vector and Accenture, bringing a strong background in digital transformation and leadership. His appointment underscores the airline’s focus on innovation and future readiness while continuing to serve as a symbol of national pride.
