TrueNoord, the regional aircraft leasing specialist, has delivered a factory-new ATR42-600 aircraft to Afrijet Business Service, operating as FLYGABON, under a long-term lease agreement. This delivery completes Afrijet’s transition from older ATR-500 series aircraft to the latest generation of turboprops, making its ATR-600 series fleet the youngest of its kind in Africa.
The aircraft is notable for being the first in TrueNoord’s fleet to feature Pratt & Whitney Canada PW127XT engines. These engines are designed to deliver significant operational benefits, including longer overhaul intervals, reduced direct maintenance costs, lower fuel consumption and decreased CO₂ emissions, offering both economic and environmental advantages for regional operators.
The ATR42-600 will primarily operate on domestic routes within Gabon, including the ability to access remote locations. The modernisation supports Afrijet’s aim to operate a more efficient, sustainable and versatile fleet.
This milestone also reflects TrueNoord’s strategic focus on supporting regional aviation growth in Africa. Afrijet Business Service becomes the fifth African airline to join TrueNoord’s customer base, expanding the lessor’s fleet in the region to ten aircraft. The company continues to strengthen its position in the regional aircraft leasing market by providing modern, fuel-efficient aircraft tailored to the operational needs of its customers.
The collaboration between TrueNoord and Afrijet has resulted in a streamlined financing solution and rapid delivery, demonstrating both companies’ commitment to innovation and customer-focused growth. By investing in next-generation aircraft, Afrijet aims to enhance passenger services, reduce its environmental impact and improve operational efficiency, aligning with broader aviation sustainability goals across the continent.
