Latvia’s national airline, airBaltic, has wrapped up the attraction of a strategic investor, with Lufthansa Group stepping in alongside a matching co-investment from the Latvian state. All agreements are signed and formalities complete, bringing the total fresh funding to €28 million and cementing a closer industrial link between the two airlines.
Next, the Supervisory Board grows to five members to deepen aviation and governance know-how. Two newcomers — Dr Alexander Feuersänger of Lufthansa Group and governance specialist Ruta Amtmane — will join Andrejs Martinovs, Jurģis Sedlenieks and Lars Thuesen. Their term will start once the share capital increase is recorded with the Latvian Register of Enterprises.
Dr Feuersänger brings more than two decades in airline operations and technology, currently serving as Senior Vice President Fleet Management at Lufthansa Group, with prior leadership posts at Lufthansa Technik and board roles at Ameco Beijing and German Operating Aircraft Leasing. His academic track includes a Ph.D. in Aeronautics (ISAE-SUPAERO) and aerospace degrees from RWTH Aachen and Imperial College London, complemented by executive study at Columbia Business School and IMD — a profile tailored to fleet strategy and reliability.
Ruta Amtmane adds seasoned oversight from banking and financial services, spanning legal, compliance, and corporate governance. She is Deputy Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board at AS APF Holdings and has previously held senior roles at AS Industra Bank, AS Reverta (formerly Parex Bank), SIA DNB Līzings, and AS DNB Banka — experience that bolsters boardroom controls as the airline executes its growth plans.
