Chromalloy, a global specialist in turbine engine aftermarket parts, repairs and restoration, has received Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval for its new “up-change” part number covering the CFM56-5B/7B low pressure turbine (LPT) Stage 1 Nozzle Guide Vane (NGV) PMA. This approval builds on the company’s earlier certification in 2021 for the original NGV configuration, offering a solution for the revised design released by CFMI around 2020.
According to Chromalloy Chief Executive Officer, Chris Celtruda, this development represents a key milestone in the company’s growth strategy. He explained that the approval allows Chromalloy to provide PMA solutions across all configurations of the LPT Stage 1 NGV for CFM56-5B and -7B engines. Celtruda highlighted that this is part of a broader effort to accelerate the expansion of PMA parts and repair capabilities for midlife engines. He also pointed to the company’s achievements in 2022, which included FAA approvals for the CFM56 high pressure Turbine Nozzle Guide Vane and the V2500 Select second stage high pressure turbine blade.
Chromalloy’s PMA parts are designed as high-value, in-stock alternatives to original equipment manufacturer (OEM) components, offering operators reliable hot section restoration options that meet strict FAA standards. The company’s investment in engineering and manufacturing has been central to developing these independently sourced solutions, which provide commercial operators with greater flexibility and cost efficiency.
The latest FAA approval further strengthens Chromalloy’s extensive portfolio of certified components, covering leading engine types such as the CF6-80C2, PW4000, CFM56 and V2500. With more than 60 FAA-approved gas path PMA parts already in service, Chromalloy boasts over 6 billion flight hours with a proven record of safety and reliability, underscored by the absence of any airworthiness directives to date.
By continuing to invest in advanced design, repairs and used serviceable material programmes, Chromalloy reaffirms its mission to support operators with practical and innovative alternatives to OEM-supplied parts. The company’s expertise in high-performance PMA components ensures that engine owners, service centres and airlines can benefit from improved overhaul value and long-term operational confidence.
