Saab has appointed Marcus Wandt as Senior Vice President and head of its new Group Strategy and Technology function. The division will strengthen Saab’s strategic position and focus on group-level strategy, technology, mergers and acquisitions, partnerships and new ventures.
Wandt, currently Chief Innovation Officer, brings a unique mix of experience to the role. A former Swedish Air Force fighter pilot, he also served as Saab’s Chief Test Pilot. In 2024, he joined the European Space Agency’s mission to the International Space Station, further showcasing his technical expertise and leadership skills.
Saab President and CEO Micael Johansson said the appointment reflects the company’s commitment to staying ahead in a rapidly evolving technological landscape. “Technology research and partnerships are strategic priorities for Saab to ensure we remain at the forefront of innovation,” he noted, adding that: “Marcus has an exceptional record in technology and innovation and is a strong, visionary leader.”
The new function aims to integrate strategic foresight with advanced technology development, positioning Saab for long-term growth. It will also enhance collaboration across business areas and accelerate innovation initiatives through external partnerships and targeted investments.
Wandt’s experience across aviation, space, and innovation management is expected to play a vital role in guiding Saab’s future direction. His appointment underscores Saab’s ambition to align its strategic planning closely with emerging technologies and global defence trends.
The organisational change will take effect on November 1, 2025, marking a new phase in Saab’s drive to combine strategic agility with technological excellence.
