Bye Aerospace, a global pioneer in sustainable electric aviation, has selected magniX’s Samson battery system for its eFlyer 2 aircraft prototype. The two-seat, all-electric trainer will make its maiden flight in early 2026. This marks a key milestone in the company’s mission to decarbonise pilot training.
The Samson battery delivers outstanding energy density and durability. It offers more than 1,000 full-depth discharge cycles and includes patented safety features. Moreover, it benefits from magniX’s proven experience in electric flight. The system has been engineered for simple integration, allowing for longer range, higher payloads and greater operating time between charges.
Beyond aviation, Samson batteries are scalable for defence, industrial, and stationary energy storage. Therefore, they serve a much wider market seeking safe and certifiable power systems.
The Bye Aerospace order follows magniX’s July announcement of a partnership with Robinson Helicopter Company. Together, they are developing an electric version of the well-known R66 model. These projects, taken together, show how rapidly demand is growing for advanced and certifiable battery systems across the aerospace sector.
“As we approach the first flight of our full-scale eFlyer 2 prototype, Bye Aerospace is proud to lead the next generation of pilot training with disruptive, all-electric aircraft technology,“ said Rod Zastrow, CEO of Bye Aerospace. “This milestone marks a critical step in our mission to deliver dramatically lower operating costs, enhanced reliability, and sustainable performance for flight schools. Our collaboration with magniX during the eFlyer 2 prototype phase brings together our innovative airframe with magniX’s proven electric power systems, laying the foundation for a cleaner, more efficient future in aviation training.”
