Fraport Brasil S.A. Aeroporto de Fortaleza, a wholly owned subsidiary of Fraport AG and operator of Fortaleza Airport, has secured the concession to operate Jericoacoara Airport (JJD) in north-eastern Brazil. The win follows a public bidding process under the Brazilian government’s AmpliAR programme, which aims to integrate regional airports into existing concession structures. Fraport Brasil plans to take over management of Jericoacoara Airport in the autumn of 2026, with the concession contract scheduled for signing in spring 2026, subject to final regulatory approvals.
Once incorporated into the existing Fortaleza Airport concession, Jericoacoara Airport will be operated by Fraport Brasil for the remainder of the term, lasting until 2047. This development will see the company managing two airports in the state of Ceará, strengthening its operational presence in the region and consolidating its long-term commitment to the Brazilian aviation market.
The concession covers the full operation of the passenger terminal and all associated landside and airside infrastructure, including retail areas and parking facilities. Fraport Brasil has committed to making significant upgrades to modernise the airport within the first three years of assuming control, enhancing both capacity and service quality. These improvements are intended to support the continued growth of passenger traffic and tourism in the wider region.
Fraport CEO Dr Stefan Schulte commented: “We’re pleased to expand our involvement in Brazil and work with our experienced team to help actively drive the development of Jericoacoara Airport and promote tourism in Ceará.”
Jericoacoara Airport handled approximately 212,000 passengers in 2024. The surrounding region is one of Brazil’s most sought-after destinations, renowned for its expansive beaches, striking sand dunes, lagoons and one of the country’s most recognisable national parks.
