Pegasus Airlines (Pegasus) has signed an agreement with CFM International covering up to 300 LEAP-1B engines to power its future B737-10 fleet, reinforcing a partnership that stretches back more than three decades. The deal also includes spare engines and a long-term maintenance services package, underlining a shared focus on reliability and lifecycle support.
The Turkish low-cost carrier indicated that CFM engines have been central to its development since operations began in 1990, helping to build an efficient and dependable fleet. Pegasus’ management highlighted strong operational experience with the LEAP engine family and signalled confidence that the same performance and stability will be delivered on the B737-10.
The airline also emphasised the environmental dimension of the agreement. The improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions of the LEAP-1B were positioned as key contributors to Pegasus’ target of reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 2030, as well as supporting the aviation industry’s longer-term ambition of achieving net-zero CO₂ emissions by 2050.
In July 2016, the airline became the world’s first operator of LEAP engines, launching the type on a commercial flight between Istanbul and Antalya. Its history with CFM spans multiple generations, beginning with CFM56-3 engines and later encompassing CFM56-5B and CFM56-7B-powered fleets.
