Saab has signed a contract with France’s General Directorate of Armaments (Direction générale de l’Armement, DGA) for the supply of two GlobalEye Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft. The agreement also covers associated ground equipment, training and long-term support. The total order value is approximately SEK 12.3 billion, with deliveries scheduled to take place between 2029 and 2032. In addition, the contract includes an option for the DGA to procure two further aircraft at a later date.
The order marks a significant milestone in defence cooperation between Saab and France and reflects a shared focus on strengthening European security capabilities. By selecting GlobalEye, France is choosing a highly advanced AEW&C solution designed to meet the demands of modern, multi-domain operations. The programme will enhance France’s ability to monitor and control air, maritime and land domains, while reinforcing national sovereignty and collective European defence.
GlobalEye is Saab’s flagship multi-domain AEW&C solution, combining a range of active and passive sensors to deliver long-range detection, tracking and identification of targets across air, sea and land environments. The system is designed to provide commanders with a comprehensive, real-time operational picture, enabling faster and better-informed decision-making. By integrating data from multiple sensors and domains, GlobalEye significantly enhances situational awareness and supports early detection of potential threats.
The aircraft acts as a critical node in modern defence networks, sharing information seamlessly with air forces, armies and navies. This capability allows military operators to coordinate responses more effectively, improve command and control, and maintain operational advantage in complex and contested environments. The inclusion of ground systems, training and support within the contract ensures that France will be able to deploy and sustain the capability effectively over the long term.
With this order, Saab further consolidates GlobalEye’s position as a leading European AEW&C solution. The programme supports France’s ambition to field advanced, sovereign defence capabilities while contributing to stronger collective security across Europe.
