Tigerair Taiwan has signed a purchase agreement with Airbus for four A321neo aircraft, marking the carrier’s first order for this model. The new addition will play a key role in supporting the airline’s network growth, while offering greater fuel efficiency and lower emissions than earlier-generation aircraft.
As a low-cost carrier currently operating a fleet of 17 A320-family aircraft (comprising nine A320ceo and eight A320neo) Tigerair Taiwan will benefit from increased commonality across the Airbus single-aisle range. This will help reduce training requirements, streamline maintenance, and lower overall operating costs.
Chairperson Joyce Huang described the A321neo purchase as a central element of the airline’s “third generation” fleet expansion strategy, aimed at maximising efficiency as Tigerair Taiwan strengthens its regional presence. Configured with 232 seats, the aircraft will allow the airline to boost capacity on its most popular high-demand routes and accelerate expansion into new destinations.
Huang added that the investment will enable Tigerair Taiwan to carry more passengers at a lower cost per seat, reinforcing its position as Taiwan’s leading low-cost carrier. The move also supports the airline’s commitment to building a younger, more fuel-efficient fleet that aligns with both commercial objectives and wider ESG targets.
