José Antonio Barrionuevo becomes CFO for IAG

International Airlines Group (IAG) has released that its Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Nicholas Cadbury has decided to step down from his current role and will leave the Group with effect from June 2026.

José Antonio Barrionuevo has been appointed CFO, effective from June 2026. Barrionuevo brings a strong track record in financial leadership and transformation within the aviation sector.

He currently serves as Chief Financial and Transformation Officer at British Airways, a position he has held since July 2023. He joined the Group in 2013 as Director of Strategy and Transformation at Iberia and has held a range of senior roles, including seven years as Chief Financial Officer of Iberia. Prior to joining IAG, he worked at JP Morgan and McKinsey.

José Antonio Barrionuevo said: “I am looking forward to continuing my career within IAG as Group CFO. IAG is well-positioned to deliver sustainable long-term growth, industry-leading profitability and value creation for our shareholders.”

The appointment follows IAG’s succession planning process, which supports the development of senior leadership talent across its operating companies and businesses. Cadbury will remain with the business over the next six months to support a smooth transition to Barrionuevo.
