Lufthansa‘s special anniversary fleet will soon welcome another addition as the airline’s first Airbus A350-1000 has been painted in its centenary livery at Airbus’ Toulouse facility.
The aircraft features a blue fuselage with a white XXL crane and the markings “1926 | 2026” and “100”. A total of 432 litres of blue paint and 246 litres of white paint were used to create the special design.
The A350-1000 is scheduled to be transferred from Toulouse to Munich this autumn. Before delivery, the aircraft will complete several test flights, further interior work and the final acceptance inspection. It will carry the registration D-AIFA and the name Deutschland, while an official naming ceremony will take place at a later date.
The first A350-1000 is also significant as it will become the 700th aircraft Airbus has delivered to the Lufthansa Group.
At 73.8 metres in length, the A350-1000 is seven metres longer than the A350-900. The long-haul aircraft will accommodate 300 passengers across four cabin classes: First, Business, Premium Economy and Economy. Lufthansa has ordered 15 A350-1000s, with deliveries scheduled by 2030.
The aircraft is the seventh in Lufthansa’s fleet to carry a special livery marking the airline’s 100th anniversary. Already in service are an Airbus A350-900, Airbus A380, Boeing 787-9, Boeing 747-8 and two Airbus A320neo aircraft wearing the commemorative design. According to Lufthansa, the special livery has attracted considerable attention from passengers and aircraft spotters worldwide.
