GE Aerospace has agreed to acquire Consolidated Precision Products (CPP), a major manufacturer of highly engineered castings, from private investment firms Warburg Pincus and Berkshire Partners.
Headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, CPP supplies precision castings and sub-assemblies primarily to the commercial aerospace and defence sectors. Founded in 1991, the company is one of the world’s largest producers of investment and precision sand castings.
CPP manufactures complex castings from superalloys, titanium, aluminium, magnesium and steel for commercial and military aircraft, weapon systems, business and regional jets, helicopters and industrial gas turbines.
The company employs around 6,600 people across more than 20 facilities worldwide. GE Aerospace has been a CPP customer for more than 15 years.
GE Aerospace Chairman and CEO H. Lawrence Culp Jr said the acquisition would help the company expand critical casting capacity amid strong demand across commercial engines, aftermarket services and defence.
“By combining GE Aerospace’s technology capabilities and FLIGHT DECK with CPP’s manufacturing experience, we expect to expand capacity, improve performance and accelerate new engine technologies for the current fleet and next-generation platforms,” Culp said.
GE Aerospace said it plans to use its FLIGHT DECK technology to improve manufacturing processes and quality, increase output and better integrate design and production.
Culp said the improvements would also support the deployment of enhanced airfoil technology and help ensure manufacturing readiness as the company increases production.
“Investing in mission-critical casting capacity is needed to support the strong simultaneous demand across commercial engines, aftermarket and defence,” he said.
